The Shadow Side In The Signs: Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius

Every sign is capable of exhibiting self-destructive traits. Generally, they are exaggerated versions of the signs' attributes that result in the opposite of their primary goals.

In the following analyses I won't look at the "why" just the "how." Note that these are very general descriptions and are not meant to be in-depth analyses of individuals.A

LIBRA

Goals: to relate, to achieve balance, to be a partner

The urge to partner is distorted into codependency. The sign's ability to analyze what the other person wants and then reflect that back to them can manifest as loss of self. If everything is projected onto the partner they lose sight of who they are while morphing into what everyone else wants. The result is superficial connections based attempts to make the other person happy. But the other person eventually senses that Libra is not being genuine (and may even accuse them of being shallow). And so begins a series of unhappy connections, as they move from relationship to relationship. They can be a serial monogamist, or eternally single and searching. Denied the thing they want the most (a balanced partnership), they will never achieve this until they develop a degree of subjectivity and healthy selfishness.

SCORPIO

Goals: to merge, to uncover the truth, to maintain control

The conflicting urges for intimacy and control create demanding intensity. They fear losing control but paradoxically crave limitless merging. As a result, they target specific individuals, establish trust and work on exposing all of that person's secrets while revealing a few of their own. In their mind, greater trust means darker things are revealed. So they expose some unsavoury parts of themselves as a test-if the other person is truly worthy they will love them no matter what. But this exposure of grim shadows combined with penetrating investigation into their partner's secrets can be a bit much for most people. As they push for more while insisting that their partner play by their rules, they can be shut out or burn out the other person. So they lose the total intimacy they're craving due to emotional amputation of a partner they deem unworthy, or obsessive fixation on a partner who doesn't want them. They need to learn that true intimacy does not involve controlling the other person.

SAGITTARIUS

Goals: to explore, to teach, to look forward

Boundless enthusiasm and curiosity are distorted into tactlessness and fanaticism. Their galloping optimism and thirst for knowledge, as well as their genuine desire to teach others, can turn into evangelical preachiness. Their conviction that there is always something better on the horizon means they can be a cheerleader, but this energy is not always appropriate. Their dislike of dark issues can result in inappropriate jokes as an attempt to ease their discomfort. Because they feel that they know best, their "helpfulness" can be tone deaf In situations where the other person simply needs someone to listen or empathize. As they trample over others in their race to move forward, they can trigger ugly reactions and miss out on some very important lessons. While reaching for true wisdom and happiness, they may completely overlook these things unless they learn to slow down and listen.
