The 5th House
5th House
Your 5th House covers the following areas:
the creative urge
self-expression, playing to the audience
fun, gambling, taking risks
children
new attractions/flirtations
the sense of being special
This is the house where your "I feel amazing" energy is stored. It's considered the house of children and creativity/art because this is where you create something/someone new. You can literally make babies, or your art/music/writing can be your babies. It's also where you can have fun and where you seek out an audience.
If you have an emphasized 5th House (one or more personal planets or one of your Nodes located here) no matter what line of work you're in, you will need a creative outlet. And, you'll need an audience to recognize and appreciate your talents. I have some clients whose vocations are all about traditional, corporate work (according to their 10th House) but their 5th House planets demand an after-hours outlet (a hobby or side project). And the audience is always important - nothing in the 5th House can be fully expressed without others paying attention. Traditionally, this is the house of the entertainer.
Some people focus this energy by having children, but in certain cases this can result in dissatisfaction if they ignore their own drive for recognition and pour absolutely everything in their offspring. Of course, as a parent your child should be your top priority, but when personal accomplishment is ignored, this can be troublesome (in a 5th House context).
An emphasized 5th can also indicate someone who never grows up or has serious addictions - they indulge in serial affairs, party 'till they drop, gamble, overspend, etc. This is why it's so important to find a healthy outlet, because that demand for fun/distraction/self-soothing will become distorted. Note that 5th House romance is first blush/courting and the 7th House is about actual commitment. Some people remain stuck in the 5th House stage (maybe if they have natal Uranus or Jupiter here) because it feeds their desire for play and freedom.
I get a lot of clients with natal Saturn in their 5th. This is a tough position, because Saturn restricts. In almost every case, they had a parent who delivered the message that they were not talented enough or deserving of recognition. Often, there is an early interest in something creative that is deemed silly or wasteful by the parent. They grow up denying what they really want to do - 5th House Saturn almost always points to a hobby or creative interest that can be turned into a serious career if work (Saturn) is applied. And fears are confronted.
Saturn in the 5th can also create a craving for proof that you are special. You put pressure on others (lovers, friends) to provide this proof and others may feel that you are constantly fishing for compliments, attention or gifts. Of course, only you can provide the ultimate proof that you are indeed worthy of love and joy, and this will happen once you take your talent (that's been denied) seriously.
If your partner has an emphasized 5th House, the worst thing you can do is deny them their time to do their own thing. Meaning, if they want to play X Box games, indulge in their hobby or take salsa lessons (and then compete) don't treat these things as frivolous - they are an essential part of their self-expression.
I will refrain from making observations about pregnancy because it is such a loaded topic (when someone comes to me with questions about pregnancy it's usually because they have problems getting or staying pregnant). This is best handled in a one-on-one consult.
Even if your 5th House is empty of natal planets, you can still use this energy. The ruler of the 5th (planetary ruler of the sign on the cusp) will also tell you quite a bit about how you can access and expand on talents/creativity. 5th House ruler in the 12th (house of transcendence) suggests the potential to reach a limitless audience, but the goal must be selfless (not for personal gain, just for the art, etc). 5th House ruler in the 10th (career) is very promising for a creative career. 5th House ruler in the 7th suggests an intense craving for romantic relationships (romance in the committed relationship), a partner as playmate or a partner (not always romantic) as an essential part of the creative process.
If you want to:
Gain Favourable Attention For Your Art
Transits of Jupiter into the 5th will expand your creative energy while pumping up your confidence and vision. Transiting Uranus will provide innovation but will also increase your desire to take risks. Be careful that you don't overdo it. Transiting Pluto can intensify your drive to create and result in some powerful work. Transiting Saturn will slow things down but can (depending on what aspects it makes to your chart) increase your discipline. Neptune can be extremely creative or it can send you down the river of dreams and laziness.
Have Fun/Flirt
Jupiter again (for more romantic opportunities). Uranus can bring the hot, one- night stand. Pluto can result in obsession with someone who won't commit, and Neptune can trigger romantic delusion. Be aware that any new attraction that springs up while this house is activated may not last. Transiting Venus Rx can trigger the "fated" attraction (or return to an old lover).
Boost Your Confidence
Transiting Jupiter for faith in self (and your talents) or transiting Pluto to empower yourself (if you want to get really serious about tackling fears of recognition, failure, etc).
Your natal chart and other transits/progressions will always amplify or lessen the impact of the above.
