Synastry Connections

A member asked me: are less obvious connections in synastry (meaning, no aspects) important?

I'm talking about planetary combos that echo each other (we'll look at Venus and Mars) even though there is no aspect between person A's Venus or Mars to person B's Venus or Mars.

Examples:

  • Person A has a natal Mars/Neptune conjunction and natal Venus/Pluto square. Person B has a natal Mars/Pluto conjunction and natal Venus/Neptune square

  • Person A has a Venus/Saturn square and Person B has a Venus/Saturn opposition

  • Person A has a Venus/Neptune square and Person B has a Mars/Neptune square

These are real-life examples taken from couples with significant , long-term relationships. The signs don't matter and none of the above planets aspect each other in their synastry. Notice how the connection between an inner planet (Venus or Mars) and an outer planet is reflected in the partner's chart? The gender of each person is also not an issue, because some men identify more with their Venus and some women identify with their Mars. We all have male and female energies in our charts.

In my work I have found that the most binding relationships have these "echoes" between them- whether we're conscious of it or not, we're all attracted to people who reflect our male or female energies. This applies if you're straight, queer, bi, cis or transgender.

Let's break this down. For the first example, A's Mars/Neptune means they are in constant pursuit (Mars) of the dream (Neptune). Their Venus/Pluto suggests repeat crises involving fear of loss/not being loved in relationships which creates an attraction to intense partners who provide that all-or-nothing hit of obsessive love (usually with severely unbalanced power dynamics). B's Mars/Pluto means they act/express their sexual energy in a way that attracts A. And B's Venus/Neptune means they're attracted to the impossible dream, personified by A's actions/sexual energy. Again, signs don't matter although the energies will be expressed differently depending on what sign they're filtered through.

I've seen some examples involving rulers of the 7th House (A has Aries on the DC and B has a 1st House Mars) or the Sun and Moon, but the most frequent echoes seem to involve Venus and Mars.

Now, all these couples also had significant synastric aspects between them, in addition to the above. And if these echoes don't exist it doesn't necessarily mean that the relationship is not important. But I've found that this is a quick and effective shorthand for evaluating how much weight a new relationship will carry or if Person A will even be attracted to B (and vice versa).

In short, we only pair up with people who are described in our charts.
