How Do You Know If It's A Past Life Connection?

A member asks “How can I tell if I'm meeting with someone from a past life and if that someone might have shared strong karmic energy with me? "

This question was triggered by my March 30th blog post about transiting Venus Conjunct Uranus/ Grand Water Trine post.

Meeting someone with whom you shared a significant past life connection will usually trigger powerful feelings. They could be romantic or intensely sexual, but they can also be deeply unpleasant (you have an instant dislike for this person, or they scare you for no logical reason). There could be a powerful feeling of affectionate friendship, comfort or responsibility.

It all depends on the nature of the past life relationship. But the defining characteristic is that you have just met this person and there's already a strong feeling of__________.  Often, there'll be something familiar about them even though you've just met.

Now, let's assume you make this connection and then you have a look at your chart. There should be one or more significant transits that support a past life connection. There may be a transit passing over your South Node (the marker that describes your past life situation) and/or your SN ruler. Or, your South Node/SN ruler could be activated with a hard aspect (conjunction, square, opposition) by a New/Full Moon or eclipse. Your Nodal Return (transiting Nodes conjoin your Nodes) or inverse Nodal Return are another sign.

Outer planet transits tend to indicate a heavier past life connection. Transits involving the faster moving planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) will indicate a more fleeting connection. Not all past life connections are super heavy- some are brief flickers of recognition. The exceptions to the fast-moving planet rule are retrogrades: Mercury, Venus or Mars RX making repeated hits to your SN indicates a connection that has some significance.

Besides aspects to the South Node, an outer planet or RX transit to a natal planet in your 12th House, or to one of your angles (AC, IC, DC, MC) is another possibility. Sometimes transiting Mercury, Venus or Mars Rx aspecting your Venus, Mars or ruler of your DC can indicate the return of a past life love.

There are many, many different types of past life relationships. Not all are meant to be continued. "Strong karmic energy" can be understood based on the strength of your feelings for that person, and the strength of their feelings for you. But, as I wrote earlier, these are not always pleasant. The person who makes you incredibly uncomfortable, the boss who always seems to have it out for you, the "friend" who drains your energy...these are examples of strong karmic energy. They are echoes of what happened between the two of you in your past life and those connections do not have to be pursued if they make you uncomfortable.

Of course, when most people hear the term "karmic connection" they think of a past life love. And certainly, karmic romantic connections are prevalent. The reason that the two of you have met again in this life Is to work out what was left unresolved in the past life. And often, these connections can be rich and fulfilling. But there's no guarantee that you will work things out or if it's even a good idea. If a relationship is abusive but the connection between you is powerful, we can say that there are some karmic issues left unresolved.

But you have to put your health and safety first.

There is nothing that says you must pursue a karmic relationship.

Karmic does not automatically equal good. It can be compelling, and sometimes very, very good. But just as there are different types of relationships, there are different types of karmic connections.

How do you know if it's good or not?

Look at what's happening with that person in your life and tune in to how they make you feel.
