The 9th HOUSE

9th House

  • higher education

  • legal matters

  • foreign matters

  • religion

  • mentors/gurus

  • publishing

  • astrology

  • philosophy and beliefs

There's quite a bit associated with this house, but everything can be categorized under "expansion." This is the house where you reach further: where you explore, learn new things, exercise your faith or seek guidance from a higher authority.

The condition of this house and its ruler will govern how you express hope for the future. Beliefs (or lack of)  are reflected here -natal Saturn in the 9th can indicate limited beliefs and extreme scepticism,  or the desire for absolute proof before you believe in anything. Saturn can also indicate an interest in formal education or the denial of learning opportunities (and the subsequent need to work harder for those opportunities).

Jupiter is very comfortable in this house. As its natural ruler, Jupiter can encourage wanderlust and optimism, a voracious desire to learn or a drive to guide/teach others. If distorted, Jupiter can indicate fanatical beliefs (Pluto will intensify this) and an urge to convert others.

People who love to travel or are attracted to partners with a very different background from them often have their Sun, Venus or the ruler of their 7th House in this house. The natal Moon in the 9th indicates a need for expansion and a certain amount of personal freedom. The energy of this house has a bit of risk and luck associated with it - maybe it will work out or maybe not but we hope for the best.

If you want:

A positive legal outcome, transits of Jupiter through the 9th are a good bet, but not a guarantee. Transits of Saturn will make things official but can also restrict. Transiting Uranus can surprise everyone with the outcome, and if it's making a positive aspect (trine or sextile) to a planet in your chart (especially your natal Jupiter or Venus) then things may go in your favour (but not the way you anticipated).

To further your education, transiting Saturn will ensure that you work hard and transiting Pluto can trigger some major transformations of your worldview. Jupiter can bring the opportunity for education but doesn't always encourage mental discipline.

A mentor, transiting Jupiter suggests benevolence but be wary of exaggerated promises.  Transiting Saturn can personify the serious, professional mentor and Pluto the intensely magnetic guru. Make sure you don't completely absorb the other person's beliefs and lose sight of your own. Transiting Neptune can be risky as the "guide" can turn out to be a charlatan. Cult leaders are associated with this house.

To relocate, transiting Uranus will certainly shake things up and bring change, but the risk factor can increase as well. Again, Jupiter is nice. Pluto can indicate a massive upheaval and move, perhaps against your will. Your progressed Moon in this house can indicate a need to relocate (you're ready) but make sure the need is aligned with your reality.

A glitch-free, safe vacation, try to avoid transiting Uranus, Neptune or Pluto in this house making hard aspects to your natal planets. Uranus is very risky, Pluto can intensify dangerous situations and Neptune can create loss and confusion. Hard aspects from transiting Saturn can delay or cancel the trip. Transiting Jupiter is good for travel (and fun) and sometimes transiting Neptune in easy aspect to your natal planets can indicate a dreamy, soothing or spiritual trip.
