Should You Be Worried About Eclipses?
This week's post is about eclipses (Full and New Moon) making tight aspects to your natal planets. Specifically, a member asked me, does this spell upcoming drama and/or disaster for you?
Some people view eclipses with trepidation. It's generally not advised to schedule important events on the day of an eclipse (if you're working with electional astrology). And some astrologers do cast eclipses in a negative light. So if you've got an eclipse coming up that tightly conjoins, opposes or squares (within 3 deg) a natal planet, should you worry?
First, my view on eclipses. This is based on my studies, the many, many consults I've done for clients and my personal experience. Eclipses are powerful energy - no more, no less. They are not inherently "evil" and they do not portend disaster. They are simply amplified New and Full Moons. The impact they have on your chart depends entirely on your chart.
If a New Moon eclipse (powerful new beginning) is conjoining your natal Mars, expect a whopper new beginning that's very active. If your natal Mars trines your natal Venus, that means the eclipse will trine your Venus, so this new beginning should deliver something you want/love (Venus) based on new initiatives (Mars). If your Mars squares your natal Saturn, this new beginning will collide with the existing limits/rules/fears in your life.
If a Full Moon eclipse (a powerful result or ending) conjoins your natal Mercury in your 10th House (career) expect a very public and official announcement that spells out an ending or result in your job.
Basically, any eclipse that tightly aspects your natal planets (or angles/Nodes) will amplify what's already there. And you also want to consider the aspects the eclipse is making to transiting planets. If a New Moon eclipse is conjunct transiting Saturn, the new beginning will be defined and official in some way. How that plays out in your life will depend on how it aspects your chart.
As for the cautions to not schedule something important (like a wedding or business launch) during an eclipse, that's because eclipses can trigger the unexpected. And this is due to their power. But it doesn't automatically mean that the event will fail.
