Best Uses For New Moon Energy
Disclaimer (for this post and Part 1): these are suggestions only and not guarantees of any outcome (positive or negative). You have free will- it's up to you to decide if and how you want to work with the lunar energies. Your actions play a huge role in how the energies of the New or Full Moon will play out.
There's a New Moon coming up on March 21st in Pisces, so let's look at some constructive uses for this energy. This can apply to any New Moon (or New Moon eclipse).
As with any astrological influence, you want to work with it. So it helps to know what a New Moon is - a beginning, the planting of seeds, a fresh chapter.
The time before a New Moon (Waning) is when things are getting darker and energy is diminishing. After a New Moon is exact (Waxing) up to the next Full Moon, the energy is increasing and the light is getting brighter. When the New Moon is exact (and a few of days after this) much is hidden because even though the light is Waxing it's still early in the game.
Therefore, New Moons are good for starting something but it's best to wait until there's some light - preferably during the Waxing Sextile which occurs roughly 5 days after the New Moon. If you start too soon (for example, right on the New Moon) there's not enough momentum from the growing energy. The idea is to use the energetic wave from New to Full for anything you want to increase.
It's imperative that you know the precise time the New Moon occurs. If you schedule something right before the New Moon is exact, you're starting when the energy is Waning which means the event could fizzle out before it goes anywhere.
Due to the "dark" nature of New Moons, much is yet to be revealed. It's expected that you won't be privy to everything and the conclusion of what you're starting may not go as planned. This does not mean that events occurring on the day of a New Moon will fail- sometimes you have to start the job, sign the document, etc. and you have no say over the timing. It's my firm belief that things happen when they are meant to. You can be certain that this new beginning will grow in the way it's meant to. But if you're actively scheduling something and you want the thing to really take off/go further/last longer, try waiting a few days.
If you feel like setting intentions, New Moon intentions can encompass anything that you'd like to see more of, or that you'd like to continue. New habits, new relationship, new lifestyle. Relocating. Intentions can be set in any way that makes them real for you (writing them down, for example). Put whatever you have that symbolizes the intention in a safe place - the idea is that it will "grow" along with the Waxing light. Burying the words/item in a pot with some seeds (that will sprout) is a great way to capture that energy of increase. Something that sprouts quickly and easily (like cat grass) is a good choice.
The technical term for this is sympathetic magic- you use real world items to echo what you want to happen. This is not a guarantee of success, but if you're setting intentions according to lunar phases you're already working with the energy and taking it a bit further can't hurt. Then again, if this idea makes you uncomfortable, don't do it. Intentions that resonate with you stand a greater chance of success.
And as usual, the impact the New Moon has on your chart is important. If the Moon makes hard aspects to your chart, the growth of the issue may not go as smoothly. The house the New Moon falls in is also important - 2nd House (earned money) is nice for financial increase. 1st House suggests increasing attention for you. 6th House is good for health matters, daily habits, pets.
