Best Uses For Full Moon Energy

Since there's a Full Moon coming up on March 7th. I thought I'd address some general questions I get about constructive uses for this energy. This can apply to any Full Moon (or Full Moon eclipse).

As with any astrological influence, you want to work with it. So it helps to know what a Full Moon is - a culmination, an ending, an energetic peak. Full Moons expose things.

The time before a Full Moon (Waxing) is when things are getting brighter. Right after a Full Moon is exact (Waning) up to the next New Moon is when the energy is winding down. Therefore, Full Moons are good for banishing unwanted influences, illuminating what's been hidden or launching something. "Banishing" can encompass breaking a bad habit/addiction, extricating yourself from a relationship, moving on from the past, purging toxic energy from your environment.

  • To illuminate a secret or launch something you've been working on: use the energy a day before the Full Moon plus the day of the Full Moon, up to and including when it's exact

  • To banish/say goodbye: use the time after the Full Moon is exact right up to the New Moon

It's imperative that you know the precise time the Moon is full.

Generally, a Full Moon is not a great time to start something brand new but it is a good time to bring something to fruition, make it public, announce. And of course you want to see how the Moon interacts with your chart. A Full Moon that makes severely challenging aspects to your planets can still be used but the results may be very uncomfortable. If the Moon makes favourable aspects, results will be much easier to handle and probably beneficial.

If you want to set intentions, use the guide above for exposing versus banishing. Writing your intentions down is the classic way to get them out there. If you're banishing, destroying what you've written down by (safely!) burning it is a nice touch. Burying it or simply ripping it up and flushing it down the toilet also works. The point is to get that energy away from you, using the momentum of the Full Moon (once it's Waning).

Written intentions for illumination are a bit trickier- you don't want to get rid of it until the matter has been exposed. Then, keeping what you've written will depend on how comfortable you are with what's being revealed.

Writing is certainly not the only way to set intentions. You can speak them or use any other method that makes them real for you. The point is that the intention itself becomes a solid thing, for you
